Some hospitals use physical locks or seals to secure pharmacy kits and trays. If your hospital’s policies and practices include these locks, colored RFID seals can be ordered from Healthcare Logistics. These seals arrive pre-encoded with KitCheck-compatible RFID tags, so no additional printing or tagging is necessary.
You will need to complete these setup steps to use RFID seals:
- Add RFID seal segment to a Kit Master
- Scan your seals for the first time
Add RFID Seal Segment to a Kit Master
To implement RFID seals into your workflow, you must add the seal segment to the Kit Master for the appropriate kit.
- Go to the Inventory drop-down.
- Select Manage Kit Masters.
- Select the kit master that requires seals. Seals are added to kits the same way as new medications.
- From the kit inventory screen, select New Segment.
- Enter the name of the seal(s) and the quantity required in the kit. If you are using two different colored seals (e.g., red and green), these should be reflected in two different segments.
Scan Your Seals for the First Time
After you create a segment with the required locks, you need to scan the kit with the new RFID seals. During this first scan you will be prompted to associate the new seal to the segment you created.
In the example below, the scanner recognizes the new lock but does not know which segment it belongs to. The system counts the green seal as missing. Click Add to Kit and select the appropriate segment item for the seals, and click the Assign to Segment button.
Once all items are associated, you will see the This Kit is complete screen. All seals contained in the kit will be listed in the top left corner.
Finally, when you print the charge sheet, all seals in the kit will be listed in the top left corner, including the seal’s ID number. This eliminates the need to manually record the entry.
