Canada: Using RFID Seals In Your Kits

Modified on Wed, Nov 8, 2023 at 5:38 PM

Some hospitals use physical locks or seals to secure pharmacy kits and trays. If your hospital’s policies and practices include these locks, colored RFID seals can be ordered from Healthcare Logistics. These seals arrive pre-encoded with KitCheck-compatible tags and no additional printing or tagging is necessary.

RFID Seal Setup

To implement RFID seals, you must first add the seal segment to the Kit Master for the appropriate kit. To accomplish this, go to the Inventory menu and select Manage Kit Masters

Select the kit master that requires seals. Seals are added to kits the same way as new medications. From the kit inventory screen, click New Segment. Enter the name of the seal(s) and the quantity required in the kit. If using two different colored seals (e.g., red and green), these will be reflected in two different segments.

Scanning Your Seals for the First Time

Upon first scan of the kit with the new RFID seals, you will be prompted to associate the new seals to the segment you created.

In this example, the scanner recognizes the new Green Seal but does not know which segment it belongs to. The system counts the green seal as missing. You must click Add to Kit, select the appropriate segment item for the seals, and click Assign to Segment. Once all items are associated, you will see the the kit completion screen. All seals contained in the kit will be listed in the top left corner.

Finally, when you print the charge sheet, all seals in the kit will be listed in the top left corner, including the seal’s ID number. This eliminates the need to manually record the entry.
