You might get a warning that there are unknown tags in your scanner. There are two potential causes for this error:
- Unprinted or unencoded tag has made its way inside the scanning station
- Unprinted or unencoded tag is being picked up outside the scanning station
Resolve Unknown Tag Warning
Check to make sure that every printed tag looks correct. Look closely for tags that:
- Have an X through them
- Display
VOID
- Contain punched holes. Here are some examples of unencoded tags that should be discarded:
Additionally, ensure that you have no blank/unprinted tags within 3 inches of the scanning station doors or power cord.
Scan the kit again to see if the error disappears. If it does not, you can find the unencoded tag by process of elimination. We will do this in batches. Refer to the guidelines below and the accompanying diagram.
- Remove about half of the items from inside the scanning station (keep track of each of the batches).
- Rescan each of these 2 batches; one batch should produce the error message and one batch should not produce the error.
- Continue this process of dividing the batch that continues to produce the error message and rescanning until you single out the unencoded tag.
- Once the unencoded tag is identified, discard the tag and print a new tag for the item.
- Place all of the items back into the scanning station and rescan.
