Manage Formulary and Items

Modified on Wed, Nov 8, 2023 at 5:37 PM

The Manage Formulary feature allows users to see all of the formulary items that have been created for their hospital. The NDC/HRI/UPC, item name, item strength, package information, formulary type and Date Added to Formulary are displayed for each formulary item.

Edit Formulary Items

For custom items, you can edit all of the item’s fields. It is recommended that you only make minor changes to formulary items as any edits made affect all units in circulation. For Medispan items, you can only edit the following fields:

  • Display Name
  • Strength From
  •  Expiring Soon
  • Alternate Expiration

Add New Formulary Items

To manually add an item to users formulary, click New Formulary Item and then provide the following information:

  • Manufacturer’s Name
  • NDC/Product ID (required)
  • Item Name (required) Generic Product
  • Item Strength
  • Item Strength Unit of Measure
  • Package Size
  • Package Size Unit of Measure
  • Package Quantity
  • Package Description (required)
  • Dictionary Type
  • Tag Type (if applicable)
  • Expiring Soon (if applicable)
  • Alternate Expirations (if applicable)

You should enter the information exactly as it appears on the manufacturer’s label (this includes all hyphens, dashes, uppercase letters, etc.). A benefit of entering information exactly as it appears is that it will reduce search time for the specific item moving forward.

Manage Items

After selecting Manage Items from the drop-down menu, scan the QR code on the item’s tag to pull up the specific item information. From this page you can:

  • Edit refrigeration expiration dates
  • Edit multi-dose vial expiration dates
  • View tag status and verification information about this item
  • Verify the item
  • Decommission the item
