In order for drugs to satisfy a kit, they must first be associated to the Kit Master so the KitCheck application knows which items are allowed in each segment. There are two different ways that Formulary Items can be associated to KitCheck segments.
Associate Items to Segments via Kit Scan
After scanning a kit containing items not currently associated to any of the kit master’s segments, you can select the existing Add Formulary Item to Segment link for a given item.
You will then be prompted to select between only adding the specific NDC you've selected, or choose to allow any NDC from any manufacturer with the same Generic Product, Strength/Concentration, and Package Size.
In the example below, you can choose between adding a specific Diprivan NDC, or allowing any manufacturer’s generic Propofol 20 mg/mL equivalent in a 20 ml package.
After users choose which option to add, they can then click the Next button to select the appropriate segment.
After selecting the segment, users should then select the correct fill option that the item belongs in. Once that has been completed, users can then select the Add to Segment button to complete the association process.
If users have chosen to associate only the specific NDC, that Formulary Item will no longer appear as a wrong item, while the other NDCs in the scan will continue to appear as wrong until they are also added to a segment. If users have chosen to associate the Generic Product, Strength, and Package Size, then all items meeting that criteria will no longer appear as wrong.
Associate Items to Segments via Manage Kit Master
Users can also choose to associate drugs to segments from the Manage Kit Masters screen by selecting Manage Kit Masters from the Inventory drop-down. After choosing a Kit Master, select a specific Segment from the Kit Master to add or edit existing drug associations.
After searching your hospital’s formulary by drug name or NDC, begin the association process by first selecting a specific formulary item to add to the segment fill option by clicking anywhere in the row.
Upon selecting the Formulary Item, users will then be prompted to select between only adding the specific NDC they’ve selected, or choose to allow any NDC from any manufacturer with the same Generic Product, Strength/Concentration, and Package Size.
Your selection will be reflected in the appropriate table; either the Formulary Items in Fill Option or the Generic Products in Fill Option table.
Click Save to complete the association process and return to the Manage Kit Master screen.
View Item to Segment Associations
After associating formulary items or generic products to segments, you can then see which items in their formulary satisfy a given segment. For the Generic Products table, you can select the arrow to the left of the generic product name to expand the table to see the specific NDCs currently in their hospital’s formulary that meet the specified generic product, strength, and package size criteria.
When associating items using the Generic Products option, additional NDCs of the same drug, strength, and package size that get added to the hospital’s formulary will be automatically added to the segment fill option, regardless of NDC or manufacturer, without any additional steps required from the KitCheck users.
