KitCheck Terminology

The following is a list of common KitCheck terms:

  • Alternate Fill: This icon represents when an alternate fill option is being used.
  • Batch: A group of items with the same NDC, lot number, and expiration date.
  • Dispatch: The action of sending kits from the pharmacy to a clinical area.
  • Formulary: The master list of items available for your pharmacy to dispense. These include items in Medi-Span and your hospital’s custom drug dictionary.
  • Item: The individual objects affixed with a tag (most commonly these are unit dose drugs), but can also be equipment and tools.
  • Kit: The physical kit, tray, or box (as opposed to a template of the type of kit). A kit always has a kit master and usually a unique identifier that is physically written on the kit.
  • Kit Master: The template for each kit type (i.e., OR tray, Code cart, etc.). A Kit Master template has a name and is composed of Segments. There are often several Kits for each Kit Master (i.e., Code cart 1, Code cart 2, etc.).
  • Kit Tag: The same type of tag as a tag used on an item, but applied to physical container, like a kit, tray, or box.
  • Label: The manufacturer-applied label on an item.
  • Multidose Item: An individual item that contains more than one dose of a medication. Items deemed as multidose are identified by the Multidose icon.
  • Refrigerated Item: An individual item that receives a KitCheck-monitored expiration date after being pulled from a refrigerator and scanned for use in a kit for the first time. Items marked as refrigerated are identified by the Refrigerate icon.
  • Scan: The word scan can refer to three distinct activities:
    • Kit or item scanning in the scanning station
    • Batch verification scanning in the scanning station
    • Barcode scanning with a handheld barcode scanner
  • Scanning Station: The physical KitCheck product that you place your kits, trays, and boxes in to scan the RFID tags for items.
  • Segment: The groupings of items within a kit. Think of a segment as a single pocket in a kit or tray in which you place one or more clinically equivalent items. Each segment can have one or more NDCs and a quantity.
  • Tag: An RFID tag provided by KitCheck that you physically attach to items so they can be scanned in the scanning station and tracked through the application. (See also Kit Tag)
