Canada: Refrigerated Items

The KitCheck system is built to automatically manage expiration dates for refrigerated items. If the item requires refrigeration before administration, select Refrigerated and enter the number of days the item can remain at room temperature and in circulation before expiring (e.g., your pharmacy might limit Rocuronium to 60 days once it has left the fridge). 

The KitCheck internal counter begins when the item is removed from the refrigerator and initially scanned for use in a kit. This alternate expiration tracks the number of days the item can remain unrefrigerated once scanned.

If a refrigerated product is placed in both refrigerated and unrefrigerated trays, KitCheck can independently track the refrigeration date for items depending on the kit or tray type. For example, if you are using Rocuronium in Tray A (a tray type that is always refrigerated), there is no need to have the refrigerated expiration counter start when the tray is scanned.

However, if Rocuronium is also used in Tray B (a tray type that is never refrigerated), the refrigerated expiration counter should start when the tray is scanned. By using the refrigeration settings for each kit master, you can indicate for Tray B that all trays of this type should have their refrigerated expiration date set at kit scan. This is the system default setting for kit masters.

To control this setting select the kit master you wish to edit by selecting it from the Manage Kit Masters drop-down menu and select the Edit Settings link. 

Once selected, the Edit Kit Master screen displays. The check box controls whether refrigeration dates will be set upon scan. Click on the Update button to save.
